Dealer’s Perception

·         The NSE-All Share Index inched up slightly, booking a 76bps gain.

·         The banking sector went to the bears during today’s session as Access Bank and UBA recorded the only gains in the sector. GTBank continued to oscillate around the lower N17.00 band; it dropped less than 1.0% at the close of the session. Also heading south were Zenith Bank and First Bank, with losses of 1.3% and 0.5% respectively.

·         While UACN, Transcorp and PZ Cussons closed with no change to their prices, Unilever and A.G. Leventis closed on the up-tick, as demand for both companies led to a gradual increase in their prices. Both closed with robust demand which could lead to a continuation of the trend early next week.

·         In the petroleum marketing sector, Eterna Oil continued its descent, loosing maximum points; Current apathy for the stock, evidenced by glutting offers, could lead to further losses early next week. Oando was also skewed to the sell side as it shed 0.4%. On the other hand, Conoil closed with a 2.0% mark-up.

Weekly Trading Summary

·         The banking sector was split fairly evenly between gainers and losers as renewed interest, after sessions of profit taking last week, led to a cumulative gain of 6.0% for Diamond Bank. Fidelity Bank, UBA and Access Bank bagged gains of 3.8%, 1.9% and 1.3% respectively. Zenith Bank and First Bank were however skewed to the sell side for most sessions this week, consequently losing 1.4% and 2.1% at the close of the week.

·         Guinness and NB booked slim gains this week as buyers adjusted bid prices slightly after the announcement of H1 numbers of NB; investors are however still expecting FY numbers from Guinness.

·         In the building materials sector, demand for CCNN and Dangote Cement during the week led to gains of 5.4% and 4.4% respectively; Lafarge Wapco and Ashaka Cement however lost 5.0% and 0.8% this week.
